Congratulations to the Students of the Month for November, David Willey and Liliana Vargas, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary luncheon today Thursday, November 6 in Murphys. The following information was shared about both students.

David Willey: â€śDavid demonstrates a strong belief in the value of long-term preparation. He commits himself fully months in advance for both track and Academic Decathlon competitions, consistently showing focus and dedication. In addition to track, David has proudly represented Bret Harte in cross country and baseball, and he remains active in a variety of leadership activities. A fun fact about David is that he loves to garden!

David hopes to attend Johns Hopkins University or a campus within the California State University system, where he plans to major in history. He also has a strong interest in political science and other fields related to understanding how history shapes society. David’s curiosity extends beyond the classroom—he has expressed interest in working as a museum researcher and has even considered becoming a tour guide, sharing stories about the historical significance of cities across the country. He envisions teaching at the secondary or college level, where his leadership and commitment to excellence will no doubt inspire his future students.

David makes the most of every opportunity available to him and brings out the best in those around him. He takes pride in doing things the right way—respectfully, thoroughly, and with integrity—which has earned him the respect of both his peers and teachers.”

Liliana Vargas: â€śLiliana recently completed her volleyball season, where, as one of the few seniors on the team, she provided much-needed leadership for a young varsity squad—never giving up, even in the face of tough competition. Her positive attitude and perseverance extend into her other sports as well, including soccer and track.

Liliana also believes strongly in giving back to her community. She volunteers each summer at the Bret Harte Youth Volleyball Clinic for elementary athletes and assists at the Junior Bullfrog Track Invitational in the spring. In addition, she serves as a monk for her local church, demonstrating her commitment to service and faith.

Looking ahead, Liliana plans to attend one of the following California State Universities—Channel Islands, Chico, or Sacramento—where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Her positive leadership, dedication, and compassion will undoubtedly continue to shine as she works toward a career in healthcare.”
