Competing in the 46th annual Mother Lode Regional Academic Decathlon competition, hosted by Tuolumne County Office of Education on Bret Harte’s campus, the Bullfrogs outscored the Summerville Bears to once again earn the title of Mother Lode Region Champions for the third time in eleven years. Bret Harte has also earned a return trip to the California Academic Decathlon state competition scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 19 in Santa Clara.
Led by seniors Brayden Bowersox (Honors), Paulina Vallejo (Scholastic), and Madison Wilkinson (Varsity) who each earned nine medals in their respective divisions. The Bullfrogs earned 96 medals competing in the theme, The Roaring 20’s. Bret Harte earned at least eight medals in each category. Included in the medal count are 14 gold medals and nine out of ten overall highest scores in the competition. View all ACADEC Regional Results HERE. Representing Bret Harte at the state competition will be seniors Brayden Bowersox and Benedict Wicke, and junior Elliott Hungerford in Honors; senior Paulina Vallejo, Gabriel Forjan, and Marion Scott in Scholastic; senior Madison Wilkinson, and freshman Luka Holbert and Blake Bowersox in Varsity.
Previously, four Bullfrogs medaled in gold at the California Academic Decathlon competition: Jackson Oliver ’21 in math; Shannon O'Flinn '23 in essay; Owen Gayle ‘24 in speech; and current senior Brayden Bowersox in speech last year.
