TRANSPORTATION UPDATE: "Dear Bret Harte Families, The safety of our students is our highest priority. To ensure a secure and comfortable transportation experience for all, we want to remind everyone of our essential bus and van safety regulations, particularly concerning seatbelt usage. Seatbelts are mandatory for all students riding the bus or van. Just as in a private vehicle, seatbelts are critical safety devices that significantly reduce the risk of injury in the event of sudden stops or accidents. We require all students to buckle up immediately upon boarding the bus and to remain buckled as required by law. California Code of Regulations, Title 5 (5 CCR), Section 14105: 'All passengers in a school bus or in a school pupil activity bus that is equipped with passenger restraint systems in accordance with sections 27316 and 27316.5 of the Vehicle Code shall use the passenger restraint system...' Consequences for Non-Compliance: • Seatbelt Violations: Students observed not wearing their seatbelts by the driver, staff, or Director of Transportation will forfeit their bus riding privileges for one full day following the incident. Parents will be notified by the Bret Harte Transportation Department. • Repeated Transportation Violations: Consistent disregard for bus or van rules, including but not limited to seatbelt violations, disruptive behavior, or any action that compromises the safety of others, will result in stricter consequences. Students accumulating three or more rule violations within a semester may be removed from bus transportation for the remainder of that semester or the year. We believe that by working together, we can maintain a safe and orderly environment on our school buses and vans. Please discuss these important safety rules with your student to ensure their understanding and cooperation. Your support in reinforcing these rules is greatly appreciated." - Bret Harte Union High School District Administration
